Dayton’s premier music school
At Star City Music Studios, we believe that every person is inherently musical, and it’s our job to help each of our students unlock their musicality. And we say everyone, we mean EVERYONE. We are the only certified Musikgarten location in the Dayton area, and are proud to offer early childhood classes for children from birth through age 9. Our student body ranges from infants to adults in their 90s, who come together with our artist-instructors each week to learn and make music.
Our World-class Instructors
Our professional artist-instructors know how to teach because they live their craft every day. Our faculty roster includes leaders in Dayton’s music community, many with advanced degrees and training in their fields.
Historic Instruments
Founded by two pianists, we are proud to teach on quality instruments, many of which are historic. From our 1898 109B Chickering Grand to our 1970s Steinway M that was retired from the Erie Philharmonic, our instruments have their own stories to tell.
Our History
After meeting in graduate school at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, pianists Dr. Samee Griffith and Aaron Mood decided to return to Samee’s hometown to open a studio in 2014. Scheduled to open on July 1st, the date was delayed due to a sudden thunderstorm that caused a flash flood in downtown (thankfully, no pianos had yet been moved into the building!). One week later, Star City Music Studios opened with 3 instructors offering lessons on piano, guitar, and voice. From those humble (and soggy) beginnings, we’ve grown to offer lessons on most major instruments, to students ages birth to adult, from more than 10 instructors teaching in multiple locations (and states).
