Ohio Federation of Music Clubs

The Ohio Federation of Music Clubs was founded in 1916 with the goals to “…share music by musical outreach to our communities, schools, churches, hospitals and nursing homes, to promote music and music education in Ohio, and to expose Ohio children to music.” Their philanthropic foundation provides grants to students studying music throughout the state.

OFMC is a member of the National Federation of Music Clubs, the goal of which is to advance American music and composers. Each year, NFMC’s Junior Festival is held in local districts throughout the country, featuring the newest music written by American composers from the beginner level to advanced. Students who participate have the opportunity to receive written comments that offer constructive criticism about their performance, as well as a rating. Additionally, students receive points based on their rating that accumulate year-over-year. For every 15 points received, a student receives a trophy, or cup, for their achievement. The highest honor of NFMC is the President’s Cup, awarded by the national organization when a student has achieved 90 points.
